In/Loving Memory/of Margaret Dixon/Sister of Alice Ada NORTON/1855-1935./Also in Loving Memory of/Alice Mabel Race NORTON/Daughter of Thomas and Alice Ada NORTON/of Bagden Hall/Born Sept. 13th 1878. Died March 9th 1962./'His servants shall see Him and they/shall face ----'. Rev 22 111./White cross. Old Saxon type.

To the Memory of/Benjamin NORTON of Cuttle/Hurst in this Parish who departed this life/the 31st day of March 1839/Aged 68 years./And of/Elizabeth relict of the above/Who died the 16th day of June 1842/Aged 69 years./Also of Mary SHEARWOOD /Daughter of the above Benjamin/and Elizabeth NORTON/Who died the 16th day of Maii 1847/Aged 43 years./'Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his Saints. Ps 116. v. 15./Large table tomb with scroll design at the head.

In Loving Memory of/Ernest Gallowen NORTON/Born June 22nd 1884/Fell asleep February. 27. 1891/'For of such is the/Kingdom of Heaven'./Stone cross with circle in centre. Ivy leaves sculptured on stem and cross bars.

ON SLOPE;

Sacred/to the Memory of/George Race NORTON./He died October/the 27th 1834. Aged 1/year and eight months./To the Memory of/Sarah NORTON/Who died in infancy/February 9th 1840./To the Memory of/Hannah Maria NORTON/She died in the Blessed/Hope of Eternal Life/May 20th 1854 aged 25 years./

ON SQUARE PLINTH:

In Affectionate Remembrance of George NORTON/Who died Oct. 22nd 1865/Aged 59 years./Also Betty his wife/Born May 24th 1807/Died March 27th 1881/'And so he bringeth them unto the Haven/where they would be'.

BOTTOM PLINTH:

Also George NORTON/Second son of the above named/Born June 18th 1835/Died April 22nd 1915/The family vault of George NORTON/of Bagden Hall./Tall obelisk with roses sculptured in front.

In Loving Memory of/George/Infant son of/George and Edith NORTON/Born March 12th 1903/Died May 30th 1903/'He shall gather the Lambs in his arms'./Small white cross.

TOP PLINTH:

In/Loving Memory/of/Alice Ada NORTON/Wife of Thomas NORTON/Born July 14th 1851/Died April 3rd 1897/

BOTTOM PLINTH:

Until the Day break/and the shadows fall away'./Also the above/Thomas NORTON CBE. DL. JP./of Bagden Hall/Born October 28th 1845/Died April 4th 1935/Stylised Saxon type cross with stylised flowers. The first three lines are on the slope of the top plinth and the first two lines of the bottom plinth are on the slope.

In Loving Memory of/Jessie JJ NORTON/MBE. Dame of Grace/Second Wife of Thomas NORTON/Born 15th December 1867/Died 11th March 1959/'The servants shall serve and they shall see his Face'./Rev. XX11. 3 and 4./Plain stone cross/

The whole of the above Enclosure 1 is surrounded by high iron railings set in a large stone kerb.

In Memory of/Jane wife of Joseph NORTON/of Nortonthorpe Hall/Who died November 20th 1862/Aged 60 years./Also of/Joseph NORTON JP./of Nortonthorpe Hall/Who died May 27th 1874/Aged 74 years./Also of/George Henry second son/of Joseph and Jane NORTON/Who died February 24. 1862./Aged 34 years./Also of/Fletcher, fourth son/of Joseph and Jane NORTON/Who died May 18. 1837./Aged 1 year and 6 months./Also Josephine daughter of/Joseph and Emmeline NORTON/Who died in infancy March 14. 1866./Also of James Lee eldest son of Joseph/and Jane NORTON who died June 12th/1885 aged 62 years.

NORTH EDGE TOP OF STONE:

Also of Christina wife of Robert PALMER of Clayton of Denby Dale and Daughter of Joseph and Jane NORTON who died 26th August 1886 aged 57 years. Also of the above Robert PALMER of Clayton who died 2nd November 1887 aged 76 years. SOUTH SIDE: Also of Emmeline widow of the late Joseph NORTON/Who died March 3rd 1907 aged 82 years. EAST SIDE: In Loving Memory of/Amy Josephine the daughter of Joseph and Emmeline NORTON/Who died 20th 1901. Aged 30 years./This is a massive table tomb.

T 62 In Loving Memory of/Rosalie Ann BEBIN/Who died May 23rd 1927/Aged 56 years./Also/Thomas St. John BEBIN./Who died Sept 27th 1930/Aged 70 years./White cross.

T 61 In/ Loving Memory of/Catherine Harriet/Wife of Benjamin NORTON/of Nortonthorpe Hall/Born Dec. 14. 1848/Died Sept. 23. 1892./EAST SIDE; In Loving Memory of/Benjamin NORTON/of Noblethorpe Hall/Born August 5th. 1839/Died January 29. 1898./White cross with sculptured lilies.

T 60 In Loving Memory of/Elizabeth/Wife of Walter NORTON of Rockwood House/Born 8th Dec. 1836/Died 16th Aug. 1903./SOUTH; In Loving Memory of/Walter NORTON/of Rockwood House/Born February 9. 1833/Died August 24. 1909./Cross with dove and flowers round a circle in which is the inscription 'Oh that I had wings like a dove/for then would fly away/and be at rest./

All the above SECOND NORTON ENCLOSURE inscriptions are in one railed enclosure like the FIRST.

EAST WINDOW

To the Glory of God and Sacred to the Memory of Thomas NORTON, Esquire/C. B. E. D. L. J. P. of Bagden Hall. 1845-1933. Erected by his family.

The subject is the Ascension. Mary and the disciples form a semi-circular group. In the centre seven are kneeling. An Angel in the sky at each side of the ascending Christ and a dove above his head. An Angel kneels at each bottom corner. 'While He blessed them He was parted from them'. This line is on a scroll held at each end by kneeling Angels.

Also of Eliza Josephine, their daughter who died March 20th 1848 aged/18 Months./Flatstone.

T 1 Here Lyeth ye/Body of John MOODY Late/of Clayton, innkeeper who de/parted this life the 14th day of/September 1753 in the 49th year/of his age./Headstone.

T 139 In Loving Memory of/Walter MOSELEY/of Clayton West/Who died Dec. 21st 1913/Aged 60 years./'Thy Will be done'./Also of Elizabeth, widow of the above/Who died December 12th 1915/Aged 61 years./Low sloping stone with roses sculptured at each side. Kerb.

159 In Loving Memory of/Arthur DEARMAN/of Clayton West/Who died November 19th 1900/Aged 64 years./Also Mary, Wife of the above/Who died January 9th 1905/Aged 70 years./Low scroll headstone with kerb.

WEST; In Loving Memory of/NORTH; Tom RHODES/Who died Aug. 27th 1952/Aged 81 years./EAST; Also L/Cpl H. RHODES/2/5 West Yorks Regt./And son of the aforesaid/Aged 20 years./Also Mary Elizabeth/Wife of the aforesaid/Who died Sept. 11th 1964. Aged 88 years./Kerbstone. Large stone vase bearing the letter 'R'./SMITH and ROSE.

In Loving Memory of/Jane/The Beloved Daughter/of William and Sarah ROBINS/of Clayton West/Born June 26th 1878/Died Sept. 18th 1897./Also George, Isabella, Herman/and Herbert, Children of the above/who died in infancy./Also the above named/William ROBINS/Who died August 26th 1915/Aged 67 years. /Also Sarah, widow of the above/Who died October 1st 1917/Aged 69 years./Headstone with lilies of the valley inset at centre of pointed top.

T 3 In Loving/ Memory of/John/Husband of/Alice WHATTAM/Died February 16th 1949/Aged 69 years./Small headstone.

 

PLAQUE ON NORTH WALL OF CHURCH:

In Loving Memory of/Isabel WINTOUR /Born 8. April 1859. Died 19th June 1942./A worshipper in this church for 75 years./

BRASS PLATE IN NORTH SCREEN:

To the Glory of God/And in Loving Memory of/Isabel Milnes WINTOUR/Whose love for this church led to/It's restoration in the year 1908.
