HIGH HOYLAND GRAVEYARD NOTES ON GRAVEYARD MAPS

The following are notes made when the graveyard was being mapped out. Each of the following could contain important information to anyone visiting the graveyard

Note the shape of the map ie position 1 on the first couple of rows is further over to the left than the rest of the map.

Extra row G0 had to be inserted at the top of the map to cater for 1 known grave with headstone positioned close to the boundary wall. This grave was not in Hilda Dearnley's inscriptions and to keep the map in sequence with hers the row G0 was added so the rest of the rows remained synchronized.

Map area G

Graves are not evenly spaced. In general the further you go right the bigger the space between graves. This means that for most of the map of area G we are guessing the number of unmarked graves between two marked graves.

Hilda records a family tabletop tomb for Dickinson as being located on row G1. This is incorrect the tomb is actually located at C1 and contains 11 Dickinsons.

Since Hilda Dearnley recorded the inscription details some of the headstones have been moved. On revisiting the graveyard she had passed comment on the fact that some headstones had appeared to have been removed from this section.

The moved gravestones are:

Mary Dearnley & Matthew Dearnley - Moved to Church Ch28

William Eastwood moved to Church Ch9

Joshua Jubb moved to Church Ch26
