PROJECT DETAILS PAGE

In the 1970's a document was created by Miss Hilda Dearnley which contains a list of all the grave inscriptions in High Hoyland graveyard. I have used the same mapping system so that details can be cross referenced. Hilda Dearnley's inscription details and map can be viewed online at the Barnsley Family History Society's website or viewable at Barnsley Library in the reference section upstairs. It is also now here on the inscriptions page.

For those who are familiar with her mapping system the sections completed so far are A, B, C, D, E, F G, H, I and J. For those not familiar then a copy of the map is on the map page of this site.

If you know the graveyard then imagine you are standing on the road (beware of cars) to the right of the church building. Next split the graveyard in two from top to bottom. The right hand side which contains burials from the late 1800's to present day is the half that contains sections H&I. The top left hand side is area G and the bottom left hand side is area J. Sections A, B, C & D are located around the church building and are known as area 'Church'.

A folder containing all these details is available for viewing at All Saints' church. Please call in at church and have a look. There are sheets in the folder so that you can add any information you have. Alternately email me from the link below. We need your help to fill in the gaps. Do you know of any family graves in which members are missing from the details supplied on these pages? Then let me know

All Saint's church is located on Church Lane, Clayton West.

The mapped area's contain 1,869 known graves so far. 442 in section H, 547 in section I, 259 in section G, 262 in section J, 197 in section E, 25 in section F and 137 in area 'Church'.
