The records for this site are continually being updated as more information is being obtained.
The records have been built by a number of processes:
Visual inspection of the graveyard.
High Hoyland Graveyard Burial Location Book. (1936-1976). As it says this book contains locations of graves between the dates specified. However unfortuneately it does not identify every grave in the given period. It frustratingly uses phrases like 'old ground'. What 'old ground' is it referring to? Is it family graves? Is it a plot used for unmarked graves? If you know, then let me know. Despite the shortfall the book has given a great deal of information. You need to be aware that its mapping system is different from Hilda Dearnleys. By cross referencing known graves I have been able to convert it to the same mapping system as Hilda Dearnleys. This book is held at Wakefield Archives and can be viewed by appointment only.
Church Burial Records. These records contain the names of everyone buried in the graveyard. They vary in the detail given. These records do not record burial locations. All Saints' church, Clayton West hold the records from the late 1970's to the present day. Contact me if you wish to see them. Earlier records are held at Wakefield Archives and are viewable by appointment only.
Hilda Dearnleys Monumental Inscriptions. This document contains as it says all the inscriptions on the grave headstones/monuments etc. It is broken down into sections. It states which section and row a grave that has an inscription is in, but does not specify the position within the row.

The record database so far contains the following details:
Every name in Hilda Dearnleys Monuments & Inscriptions document. Covers 1640-1973
All the details from the 1936-1976 grave location book.
All the records held at All Saints' church 1970-2006
All the records from 1900-1915 from the Burial Books held at Wakefield Archives.
Most of the records for 1760-1846. Copies of records donated by BFH Society
When viewing the records bear in mind the following:
The dates given in general are burial dates and not date of death although there are odd exceptions to this rule.
The spelling of names recorded may differ from what you expect.
Some surnames appear to have changed the spelling over a period of time.
The relatives or recorder at the time of death may have spelt the surname as they think it was spelt and not how you expect
it to be spelt.
Some records were extremely difficult to read and I may have mistranslated them. Some were so unreadable that they are
not in this database. So if you cannot find the name you are looking for but you know the year of burial contact me and I will see if it matches (remotely) anything in the records for that year.
Human error. I don't believe for one minute that I will not have made mistakes compiling a database of over 4000
records. Please contact me if you spot any.
